Tourism Strategy
Members of the local business community and not-for-profit groups with a keen interest in the tourism industry, were invited to a strategy session 1n January 2010. In order to improve, expand, and maximize the potential for the tourism industry in the central Labrador region area sought advice and ideas. The session was organized by the Central Labrador Economic Development Board (CLEDB) and the Executive of the Labrador Lake Melville Tourism Association (LLMTA), supported by Destination Labrador and funded by the provincial department of Innovation Trade and Rural Renewal.
The provincial Department of Tourism has recently created a Tourism Board and our Labrador representative is Jack Cooper. The main goal of this Board is to double tourism revenues by the year 2020. The Tourism Board has produced a document "Uncommon Potential A Vision for Newfoundland and Labrador Tourism", and incorporated a strategy to meet their revenue goal with the following strategic directions:
Private Public Leadership
Sustainable Transportation Network
Market Intelligence & Research Strategy
Product Development
Tourism Technology
Marketing Our Brand
Developing Our Workforce
The CLEDB has created a local strategy in line with the provincial Tourism Board strategic directions.
The Tourism Summit was the first phase of gathering information for our strategy. We welcome further and continued input from the community.
